The London-listed telecoms group Gamma Communications is lining up the earlier boss of IT firms provider Softcat as its subsequent chairman.
Sky Information has learnt that Gamma is in detailed talks with Martin Hellawell about taking up from Richard Final, its long-serving chair.
The hunt for a model new chairman comes amid persistent bid speculation about Gamma, which has a market capitalisation of about £1.1bn.
Metropolis sources described Mr Hellawell as a result of the frontrunner for the submit, although they cautioned that an appointment was unlikely sooner than the company’s annual meeting this month.
Gamma provides telecoms firms to small and medium-sized enterprise shoppers, and has constructed a sturdy cash place, although its shares have remained largely flat over the last 12 months.
If confirmed, Mr Hellawell’s appointment is extra more likely to be regarded as a coup by Gamma shareholders.
